Galli Galli Sim Sim 2nd Community Event

Report on Galli Galli Sim Sim Second Event held on September 5, 2012Ticket ho ya na ho ye gadi Chal Padi, Around 150 students sang this line with Nisha in Hind Bal Senior Secondary School Bainsi, Mewat . Radio Mewat organized the second event of Galli Galli Sim Sim in Bainsi village this morning, the 5th of September. The event coincided with Teachers Day and reinforced the importance of education and how learning and teaching can be fun. The event started at 10:15 am , with the District Food and Civil Supplies Officer, Ms Manisha Nehra as chief guest. (The Additional District Commissioner, nominated Ms Mehra as he had to go to Chandigarh). The program started with a warm welcome by Mohd Arif .

Aapki Police Aapki Baat

SMART did a pilot program with the district police department and in consultation with the Superintendent of Police (SP),Mewat. We ran a radio based help line and complaint registering service for the local police. The program was aimed at reaching out to the women and other vulnerable groups in society, who found it difficult to go to the police station or were afraid of harassment, if they registered complaints.

Powering Employability: Computer and Confidence Building Courses

SMART, with support from Women without Borders, Austria, organized a 6 months computer training program for over 250 women and girls in Mumbai. The target group was the families of the police inspectors and constables. The low salaries and living conditions of the police force in Mumbai inspired this training program. The effort was to provide skills that would help the women to get jobs and contribute to the family income. The daughters and mothers attended the course together.

SMART undertook the total sanitation campaign in Mewat with support from the Department of Rural Development, Haryana. The project involved creating awareness among the community members to construct toilets and bring about a marked improvement in their lifestyles. SMART hosted poster competitions, mobilized students to participate in rallies, wall writing and radio programs. Promotional advertisements were produced in the local dialect and support was provided to those who agreed to construct toilets.
