School in Program

SMART is partnering TRF-HSBC in taking the program of Galli Galli Sim Sim to schools. A number of episodes are going to be part of the curriculum. SMART is working with a few schools in Mewat and teachers have been provided with phones to enable them to play any episode at any point of time – especially if they feel it will provide inputs to the lesson being taught.

Womens hour at Radio Mewat

A three day ‘Community Women Broadcasters Workshop’ organized by Radio Mewat from 02 – 04, April, 2013 in Mewat, Haryana concluded this evening with a certificate distribution ceremony and lots of promises from the participants to stay connected and engaged with their community radio. The premises of Radio Mewat were resounded with sounds of ‘Hamara samudayik radio- Radio Mewat” This was made possible with the support from CEMCA, who not only trained three of the reporters of Radio Mewat, but also encouraged and empowered them to train 20 other enthusiastic volunteers. CEMCA also provided a small grant to host the same.
The aim of this workshop was capacity building, training and skill development of the participants

Hamaro Raj Panchayati Raj

With support and funding from the Ministry of Panchayati Raj , SMART carried out an Action Based pilot project on Panchayats to assess how the community radio, through dissemination of information, improve the functioning of the PRIs by making the elected members aware of their role in bringing about inclusive development.

The deliverables included a baseline survey of 10 Panchayats to understand the existing level of information regarding their role and responsibilities,

TB free Mewat: Project AXSHYA

SMART along with REACH an organization committed to the eradication of Tuberculosis and to ensuring proper and the full treatment of patients living with TB successfully completed a 6 month long program on spreading awareness on the symptoms, the causes and the treatment of TB. The project helped in breaking the myths and in also addressing the taboos towards a patient.

Health first

SMART hosted consultations for Global Health Advocates on health related issues with the Panchayats and women groups to create a demand for health care and to build the community’s stake in the health delivery systems.

With a focus on getting positive outcomes the health related issues were zeroed down to Maternal and Child Health, Nutrition, immunization, Tuberculosis

Financial Inclusion Project

With Support from National Agricultural Bank for Rural Development, SMART launched a year- long campaign on Financial Inclusion.

In India over 41%of the households are excluded from banking services. But in Mewat almost 75 per cent of the households are financially excluded. This is mainly because of lack of information and sensitization of the community besides of course several other reasons including poverty and dependence of agriculture for their livelihoods, fewer entrepreneurial activities etc.

National Community Radio Awards-2013 conferred

India’s minister for Information and Broadcasting, Manish Tewari, conferred awards on thirteen community radio stations at the final day of the 3rd National Community Radio Sammelan, in New Delhi.
Instituted in 2012, the second edition of the Awards recognises the brilliance of the progress of the community radio in India by identifying outstanding achievements in five categories which includes among others, categories looking for exceptional work in the promotion of local culture and adoption of sustainable models.
Radio Mewat from Nuh in Haryana, working for the development of the educationally backward minority community of Meos bagged the first prize in the most creative programme content category for its programme Apki Police Aapke Sath.

Health for all

With funding support from the National Rural Health Mission, Government of Haryana, SMART produced over 200 programs on health issues and broadcast them on a regular basis on the Community Radio- Radio Mewat.

The programs covered issues related to immunization, sanitation, nutrition, pre natal, pregnancy, post natal, RCH, violence, delivery huts, mobile vans, infant health, common diseases like TB, hypertension, tobacco, diabetes, heart related problems, problems of adolescence, youth and specific programs for the girl child.

Immunisation a need for all children

SMART partnered AidMatrix, a US based health services organization, in promoting the need to get the children immunized. Mewat has a very poor performance in immunization. The community does not trust the vaccines and uses various excuses to avoid getting the children vaccinated.
Radio Mewat ran a series of programs focusing on immunization, the vaccines, the periodicity, success stories etc. SMART partnered AidMatrix in its health Mela and awareness campaign.

Galli Galli Sim Sim 2nd Community Event

Report on Galli Galli Sim Sim Second Event held on September 5, 2012Ticket ho ya na ho ye gadi Chal Padi, Around 150 students sang this line with Nisha in Hind Bal Senior Secondary School Bainsi, Mewat . Radio Mewat organized the second event of Galli Galli Sim Sim in Bainsi village this morning, the 5th of September. The event coincided with Teachers Day and reinforced the importance of education and how learning and teaching can be fun. The event started at 10:15 am , with the District Food and Civil Supplies Officer, Ms Manisha Nehra as chief guest. (The Additional District Commissioner, nominated Ms Mehra as he had to go to Chandigarh). The program started with a warm welcome by Mohd Arif .
