Radio Chaupaal
A community radio serves the purpose of a bridge between the community and the administration. Without this connection it does not serve the purpose of making the voice of the most marginalised heard by those in power. Thus Radio Mewat has started this series where it invites one official of any department to the station. The official informs the listeners about the role of his/her department and then takes questions pertaining to grievances related to the department. The programme has helped in increasing the participation , understanding and access of the community and helped give a human face to the district administration.

Hinsa Ko No – Domestic Violence
The state of women in Mewat is a story as ignored as the women’s alarming lack of agency. Limited access to education in a society overridden with extremely conservative and patriarchal practices, women are still considered fit enough only to reproduce and do household work. With and large families, high rate of illiteracy and limited opportunities for economic sustenance, women face violence on a regular basis. While verbal abuse is not even considered a point of concern, rarely are any eyebrows raised when women are beaten so badly that they suffer serious injuries and fracture their bones. Cases of violence are hardly ever reported. Families look at negotiations and out of court settlements, or most of the time convince the girl to go back and accept the violence as her fate. Radio Mewat has been working on Domestic Violence since 2018. It has adopted a three pronged approach- broadcast of stories of violence collected from the ground and include various facets of the law and women’s rights in the episode, formation of women’s group called “Mothers’ Groups” across 30 panchayats of Nuh to discuss issues of domestic violence and create awareness on their rights, and training multi- stakeholders to sensitise them on the issues of violence and the need to build the agency of women. The stakeholders are police, ASHA and ANM, Mahila Thana staff, Women and Child Department, the Legal fraternity and paralegals, staff of the One stop centre and more.

Corona se jung: Ab Vaccine ke sung
While increasing the uptake of COVID-19 vaccine is a primary concern at the moment, the situation for women is even worse. With a lack of education, access to registration for vaccines and almost no social agency, the women of Mewat have been left far behind in this entire vaccination drive. There is an urgency to spread awareness on the efficiency of the vaccine, bust myths and reach out to communities physically as well as through traditional media tools- in order to communicate the important messages in the language/dialect. Radio Mewat, has been working on increasing uptake of the vaccine, by increasing awareness and mobilising communities for the vaccination camps.
